Saturday Morning Walk at Trustom Pond - June 9th 11am

In addition to Friday's memorial service, an hour-long walk at theTrustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge has been arranged for Saturday morning, June 9th, at 11:00am.  Scott loved taking walks at Trustom - it was one of his favorite places to enjoy the outdoors.  The walk is open to anyone who would like to join. 



The Refuge is located at 1040 Matunuck Schoolhouse Road, South Kingstown, RI, 02879.

Hotel and Transportation/Ride-Sharing Info for Memorial Service

For those traveling from out-of-town for Scott's memorial service, some hotel and transport arrangements have been made. 

Hotel rooms have been reserved under the name "Nixon Memorial" at the Holiday Inn in South Kingstown (401-789-1051 or www.HolidayInn.com/skingstownri, group code NIX).
In addition, a group discount for Hertz car rentals at the T.F. Green Airport location is available.  Please call Hertz from the U.S. or Canada at 1-800-654-2240, and use the code CV#022L3505 to get your discount - the group discount is in the name of "Scott Nixon Memorial".

Public Memorial Service and Donations


The family of Dr. Scott W. Nixon has announced a memorial service for him which will be held at:


10:30 AM, Friday June 8th
The Towers
35 Ocean Road
    Narragansett, RI   
   

If you can't attend the memorial, but would like to write down some thoughts or memories about Scott, send them to vberounsky@gso.uri.edu and they will be printed out and put in a notebook for his family and others to see at the memorial service.

CERF Scott W. Nixon Memorial Fund for StudentsTo honor Scott Nixon’s lifelong and broad contributions to the knowledge and stewardship of our coasts and estuaries, the family has asked that in lieu of gifts or flowers that you make a contribution to the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation (CERF).Thank you all for your gracious wishes during this very sorrowful time for family, friends and colleagues.

CERF has created a special fund for this purpose named the Scott W. Nixon Memorial Fund.

Scott was a longtime supporter, member and leader of CERF.  To honor his service, CERF will use all funds contributed in memory of him to support student participation in CERF meetings and events, such as its biennial conferences.   Any student, presenting or not presenting, will be eligible to apply for a scholarship to attend any CERF conference, workshop or other such meeting.

To make a contribution to CERF in memory of Scott, you may:

1.       Donate through CERF’s website – http://www.erf.org/ :
          a.       Go to CERF’s website.
          b.      Click on the “Donate Now” button on the home page.
          c.       This will take you to a donation page which you can complete.
          d.      Under “Program designation” select the “Scott W. Nixon Memorial Fund”.

2.       Make a check out to “Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation” or “CERF”.  Mail the check to:

Donations may also be made to The Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge, to support the refuge and to go towards a bench with a plaque designated in Scott's honor.  Scott loved to take walks frequently at Trustom Pond. 

Checks can be made out to Friends of The National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island (Friends of NWRs of RI) and mailed to 50 Bend Road, Charlestown, RI 02813.  Please include a note that your donation has been made in memory of Scott Nixon.
